This detail of the LSS shows how close the clearance between the steering crystal and the incident beam pipe is when the Langmuir trough is on the sample stage. You can also see the new translation stage, phix, that allows us to move the steering crystal out of the way and put something else into the beam (for example, a centering pin for alignment).
